It is with a full heart that I announce the passing of Ginette Guedu, Sunday, May 18th in France. She is pictured here on the right.

Ginette was one of the senior teachers very close to Noelle. I first met her in 2008 at an Aplomb Seminar in Paris. She had a fine intelligence and guided all of us with love and discipline. Everyone who knew her was touched by her happy spirit and her insistence that we get it right.

I cherish the many times her hands set me straight, putting me on the line as best I could be in at that moment.

Here are just a few things she will be remembered for:

  • Demonstrating the hardest yoga poses, like boat pose, in her two inch heels and slim skirt well into her 90’s.
  • Being the treasurer for Noelle’s Paris seminars and fearlessly carrying thousands of French francs to her parked car in the dark of night.
  • Assisting a young Aplomb teacher at a Balance Center seminar. Ginette was far more senior but declined to take the lead.
  • Hosting Jenn Sherer, Brant Pederson and me at her home near Versailles for a three course lunch, and three hours of class, then driving us speedily back to the train station in her stick shift transmission car. We were hanging on to our hats!

It was under her tutelage that I had one of my most profound experiences of “being on the line.” It was a Sunday Parisian morning pranayama (breathing) class with Noelle guiding. When Ginette came to me she aligned my torso and her breath naturally had me following along. When she was satisfied she moved on. I was weightless. I did not breathe, the breath came to me from somewhere in the universe. I felt like a vessel that received the breath from maybe Venus. The breath came in, the breath went out effortlessly. I was nothing.

With gratitude.
