This Chair Assists You in Pain-Free Computing

Your chair is crucial for comfort at the computer. Here is a chair that I like because it gets higher than any chair I’ve ever worked with. Also, it has no arms. Both features are crucial for spinal alignment and optimal arm usage.

This is on Amazon and may be available on other sites.

Note: There are six colors to choose from! I like the blue one.

These are some of my thoughts about it.

Supporting your skeleton is super important when picking a chair. The seat cannot be soft, it should be solid in nature.

Chairs that are soft make it too easy for your pelvis to fall backward. Sitting on the back of your pelvis (butt) misaligns the spine. When this happens, your bones do not support you, so your muscles tighten exhausting you throughout the day.

Padding on the solid seat adds comfort.

This chair may not work for broader people. The seat is about 17 inches across. That width will accommodate the bones of your pelvis, but you may like a broader chair for comfort.

Adjusting your chair for your body type

Because the table is fixed, the only way for me to get comfortable is when the post under the chair seat extends up high enough so that:

  • my upper arms hang,
  • the lower arms are horizontal,
  • my hands are curved with fingertips on keys.

Once the seat is high enough for my arms to be well-positioned, then my feet don’t touch the floor. This is easily solved by putting a box under my feet. For a more detailed description of how to position yourself, go to our blog entry on Computer Comfort.

One of the Amazon reviewers liked the chair because she was taller In this chair her knees were less bent than usual because the post made it possible to have the seat higher.

Resting your lower arms on the armrests of computer chairs is harmful because it causes you to move solely from your wrists.  It’s optimal to move your entire arm from your shoulder, like a piano player. Since this chair doesn’t have arms you are not tempted.

One disappointing feature: the chair is inexpensive so I don’t expect it to last more than a year or two.

Conclusion

In general, the best features of this chair are the capacity to extend the seat upward and that it does not have armrests.

Once again, buy it on Amazon or your favorite online retailer.
