What does it take for someone to change their habits in order to live in Balance?
In my experience, it’s a changed circumstance, usually pain. But pain isn’t always the reason someone finds their way into Balance.
Recently I heard from a man who is recovering from cochlear implant surgery.
He wrote:
“Saw your blog entry today about bending after your shoulder injury, with that gorgeous picture of the guy stirring the soup.
My post-surgery instructions say that I must not bend over because it puts tremendous pressure on my inner ear. Of course, you can’t get around in this world without bending over!
- Putting on your shoes.
- Picking up something you dropped.
- Plugging something in.
- Turning the switch on the air filter.
- Whatever!
So what I learned or intuited so I wouldn’t have to bend over is exactly what that guy is doing.
No bending over for two weeks. It’s interesting to notice how often during the day you do bend over when you’re not supposed to bend over!”
Let me add that this man’s wife has practiced Balance for years. She always hinges at her hips when bending. Perhaps his intuition about how to bend without pressure in his ears was prompted by what he sees his wife do all the time.
